Marble Slab Creamery – For some well made Ice Cream Flavours and their Sundaes

You take so many things for granted around Singapore. A friend was visiting from India sometime back who commented… “I am amazed at the sheer variety in something as simple as ice creams you know… I have not seen such spread of flavours and mixes in ice creams ever!” It was only then I remember how fascinated I was at what Singapore offers… for something as work-a-day as ice creams as well.
This conversation happened outside one of my favourite ice cream chains in Singapore… Marble Slab Creamery.

Marble Slab Creamery, the concept was born in the United States in Houston 30 years ago. Today the franchaise has spread across 35 states in the USA and beyond to Canada, UAE and Singapore as well.

For those unaware of Hot Plate prepared Sundaes, the Creamery can be quite an experience.

Step 1: You pick an ice cream of your choice from the regular and unique flavours they offer. Some of favourite flavours are:
– Butter Peacan
– Coffee
– Lemon Custard
– Strawberry
– Red Velvet Cake

You can of course ask for a taste of the flavours that appeal to you from the beautifully colourful display.

Step 2: Either you can eat the ice cream as is, or create a Sundae out of it, on a hot plate…

Basically, you take the ice cream, select what type of Sundae you want.

They mix it for you on a hot plate thus blending the ingredients with each other to create a homogeneous Sundae.

Some of my favourite Sundaes are:

– Caramel Peanut Butter Crisp: Mixture of sweet Cream with Crushed Butterfinger (a Marble Slab creation) along with Chocolate Chips & Caramel.

Strawberries 'N Cream @ Marble Slab Creamery

– Strawberries ‘N Cream: For the fruit lovrs, here’s a Sundae with Strawberry ice cream, sweet cream and fresh strawberries.

– Smooth Mint Masterpiece: Rare combination of Cool Mint with Chocolate Sprinkles, Mint Candy & Fudge… haven’t had such a Sundae before…

Marble Slabs Creamery also has a selection of Ice Cream Cakes… a concept fast catching up… replacing the traditional birthday cakes… You can either order the cakes (I have tasted them on a few occasions and they are pretty cool!) or pick up a cake off the shelf… What’s more? You can order the cakes online on their website and decide on a collection location as well…

How much will it cost me: A small Sundae (quite large for 1 and just about enough for 2 persons) will cost you around S$ 9 to S$ 12. Yes, it is decently pricey… but it does serve a variety and makes it perfect for once in a while visit. Cakes cost around S$ 60 per kg.

Verdict: I am a sucker for anything unique and/or different… and the fun of watching an ice-cream sundae made before your eyes is pretty exciting for me. (I know enough skeptics around me who often scoff at my enthusiasm and term it as lame… but hey! I enjoy it.) The quality of their ice creams is good… the fresh waffles option is quite good too. What I find most interesting is some of their unique flavours… and for that alone, I wouldn’t miss a chance to visit it!

Locations: The store is currently available at about 10 locations in Singapore. http://www.marbleslab.com.sg/store_locator_sg.html
